Is Your Community Using Basic Care Aide Training?

The federal government issued a waiver in the spring to allow states to hire people to work as “temporary nurse aides” in older adult communities, and some states followed suit.

These aides – or Basic Care Aides, as they are called in a LeadingAge-supported training program - help out certified nursing assistants with tasks that do not require a license. These aides may be current employees who were cross-trained – or, displaced workers from other fields.

Good news! Make sure to count these hours in the Payroll-Based Journal. According to CMS, you can enter these hours in the job code for nurse aide in training. Do note that this is different from the hours for your certified nursing assistants.
