Hurricane Harvey Update

Members | September 06, 2017 | by Amanda Marr

We continue to work closely with LeadingAge Texas to assess the damage incurred by our LeadingAge members in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

In response to the destruction that Hurricane Harvey caused, which affected more than 40 communities and thousands of residents and staff members in and around the Houston area, LeadingAge established the Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund. In 9 days, the LeadingAge community has rallied to support their peers and we have raised almost $100,000. We are incredibly grateful for this outpouring of generosity from our LeadingAge family.

The state executive of LeadingAge Texas, George Linial, and his staff have been tirelessly working to connect with the members who were impacted. They have yet to reach all of them, but from what they are hearing already, staff members seem to be the hardest hit and hundreds may have lost their homes entirely. We will work with George to identify the highest priority needs and distribute disaster fund money accordingly. 100% of all donations will go directly to members and their staff to cover a range of needs including basics supplies such as food and water. All donations are tax-deductible.

If you would like to make a donation by check, please make it payable to LeadingAge and send it to:

2519 Connecticut Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20008
Attn: Jody Moeller

We will continue to update you as we learn more about the situation in Texas. And of course, we are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Irma as it barrels towards the Florida coast.

Thank you!
