A Message From Katie
LeadingAge president and CEO Katie Smith Sloan wrote a new message on being catalysts for change.

The trauma we experienced and the challenges we faced over the past 9 months helped us all rediscover what we are: mission-driven organizations with a deep appreciation for the value of every life under our care. Now, it’s time to imagine, in the words of FDR, “what we may be” when this health crisis is over.

Thanksgiving Telepresser
Yesterday LeadingAge hosted a national media event to make a Thanksgiving plea to Americans and our leaders to help head off the catastrophic threat that the coronavirus poses to millions of older adults and care workers this holiday season. Leaders from COVID hot spots—including Wisconsin, Iowa, and Georgia—discussed local challenges, and called on Congress to take the steps needed to protect millions of older adults from the worst pandemic in a century. In addition, we released an open letter to the American people calling on them to follow the CDC’s guidance on masks, social distancing, and handwashing.

Early coverage ran in Skilled Nursing News, 2021 Will See ‘Many Facilities Fail’ Without Federal, State Help; Modern Healthcare, Older adults at 'ground zero' during COVID-19 pandemic; and McKnight’s Senior Living, LeadingAge issues ‘call to action’ to public to prevent more COVID-19 deaths.

Materials are available, including the open letter, a press release, Katie's remarks, and the telepresser recording. As always, feel free to make use of these to cull messages for your local outreach.
