Last month, we reported that data breaches affected nearly 60 senior living providers connected with software company Tenx Systems, doing business as ResiDex Software. McKnight's Senior Living has since reported that additional senior living operators, staff members, and residents may have been affected.

The breach put at risk personal information or protected health information of current, former, or prospective residents and staff members of The Villages of Marion, IA, including the Village Ridge assisted living community and Village Place independent living community, as well as some CentraCare Health senior living communities in Minnesota, said the article. A limited number of CentraCare Health’s 19 senior living communities in Minnesota may have been affected. Names, Social Security numbers, and medical records may be at risk.

ResiDex provides software for assisted living communities, group homes, and other organizations providing care for older or disabled adults. People who have been notified or who believe that they may have been affected can call (877) 347-0184 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. EST.

CAST Cybersecurity Resources

As the risk of breaches remains high, especially in the healthcare space, we encourage you to use CAST's Cybersecurity Resources. They will help you to understand and mitigate cybersecurity threats. They also guide you on how to respond if your organization is attacked.

The resources include a Cybersecurity White Paper, Case Studies, and a Self-benchmarking Questionnaire. Use them to identify where your organization may be at risk so that you can strengthen your protection.

If your organization uses voice-controlled devices, please review CAST’s article “Opportunities, and Risks, with New Smart Voice Technology in Senior Living” for guidance on related privacy and security concerns.
