On the afternoon of May 12, CMS announced it would give Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) providers additional time – until June 1 -- to meet the reporting deadline under the SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP). Originally, SNFs were to have completed the reporting and any corrections to the MDS reporting data by Monday, May 15. The data that needs to be submitted now by June 1, 2017 is for the MDS for all Medicare Part A admissions that occurred on and after 10/1/2016 and were discharged from the SNF up to and including 12/31/2016. There is a new section GG, which is included in the SNF Part A PPS Discharge Assessment, that must be completed along with the rest of the MDS forms for compliance with the QRP reporting. Ensuring that the MDS submissions and data are complete are critical as SNF providers are at risk to lose 2 percent off their FY2018 Medicare rates as a penalty for failure to report.

SNFs are encouraged to check their submission status and obtain final validation reports through the CASPER system to determine if all data has been received and to make any corrections.  For the latest updates, FAQs, and other tools for complying with the SNF QRP reporting requirements visit the SNF Quality Reporting Program website.
