SNF PPS Extension Granted

This morning we received notice that based on advocacy efforts of LeadingAge and others that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted an extension for the comment period on the advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM), which proposes changes to the skilled nursing facility prospective payment system (SNF PPS). In its statement, CMS indicates that “granting an extension to the public comment period in this instance would further our overall objective to obtain public input on the potential refinements to the SNF PPS we are considering.”

The new deadline for comments is August 25, 2017. We thank those members that have shared their thoughts with us so far and continue to encourage members to contact Aaron Tripp as we consolidate comments for CMS.

However, this extension does not apply to the proposed rule that seeks comments on the 2018 SNF rates, SNF Quality Reporting Program, Survey Team Composition, and the requirements of participation. We are pleased to see several LeadingAge member's comments already posted. This is an unprecedented opportunity for providers to pursue changes to some of the more burdensome provisions of a final rule. If you haven’t done so yet, please take a few minutes to think about those provisions of the ROPs rule that have a negative effect on your operations, write down your thoughts and either send them directly to CMS via the Regulations.gov website (deadline June 26), or send them to Jennifer Hilliard for incorporation into LeadingAge’s comments (deadline June 19).
