First CAST-Led LTPAC Health IT Summit Starts June 24

At CAST this June, we are excited to kick off the first LTPAC Health IT Summit under our leadership in just a few days. We’ll tell you all about this summit and why it’s important to attend.

Next, we’ll walk you through the updates to the CAST EHR Selection Tool and CAST Social Connectedness and Engagement Technology Tool. You also can learn from the FutureCAST videos featuring Tommy Hayes from LeadingAge CAST Supporter Lyft and Mary Alice Ryan from LeadingAge CAST Patron St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors System.

In aging services news, we’ll share news about a new Ziegler fund that targets senior living technology. You can also see why a new white paper names Big Data and Technology among seven issues most likely to have a powerful impact on aging services and why choice, control, and connection are key to effective technology. Let’s get started!

CAST Leads Its First LTPAC Health IT Summit June 24-26

The first LTPAC Health IT Summit under LeadingAge CAST leadership is coming up soon, June 24-26, at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC. This year’s summit welcomes a broad audience, beyond long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) providers to acute-care providers, payers, and technology vendors serving older adults and people with chronic conditions. As I told McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, “For years, acute-care providers, long-term and post-acute care providers, and payers have operated predominantly as silos. LeadingAge and CAST see a huge opportunity for collaboration and partnership between these siloed groups.”

CAST Updates EHR Selection Tool, Sees Increased Sophistication

We have now updated our EHR Selection Tool, which can help you plan for and choose the best electronic health record (EHR) system for your needs. Look for updated CAST 7-Stage EHR Adoption Model data that show more providers moving away from mere Information Systems and Basic EHRs (Stages 1 and 2) into Stages 3 and 5. CAST has also added a new provider case study and an updated EHR Selection Matrix featuring a new vendor.

CAST Social Connectedness and Engagement Technology Portfolio Featured

Last month, McKnight’s Long-Term Care News highlighted the updated CAST Social Connectedness and Engagement Technology Portfolio, in the Online Selection Tool and Selection Matrix. The updates include five new technology products to help older adults engage and connect with family, friends, and caregivers: Better Every Day, ConnectMeMore, LiveCare, NucleusCare, and The Birdsong Tablet.

CAST makes it easier to use tech to improve social links” also shared my comments, that the toolkit can help long-term care providers easily sort through the myriad of tech-based solutions to find those that would be the best fit for their care setting, the population they serve, the purpose of the technology, and other requirements.

FutureCAST Interviews Tommy Hayes and Mary Alice Ryan

Mary Alice Ryan, President & CEO of St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors System, a LeadingAge CAST Patron, shares their excitement in bringing on their first director of technological innovations and plans to prepare for their future.

New Ziegler Fund Targets Senior Living Technology

Ziegler recently closed a $37 million fund targeting investment companies that are improving the aging experience through technology, home-based care, and data analytics. In related good news, a recent study from Revera found strong support among older Canadians for innovations to help improve the aging experience.

Big Data and Technology Among 7 Top Industry Issues

A new white paper from LeadingAge Silver Partner CliftonLarsonAllen, “2018 CLA Senior Living Trends,” has named Big Data and Technology among seven issues most likely to have a powerful impact on the aging services industry. The authors highlight the importance of drawing insight from data. They also caution that intermediaries such as Uber, Tesla, Blue Apron, and Amazon may harness technology to offer older adults alternatives to services that senior living organizations traditionally provide.

A recent column in McKnight’s Senior Living explains how to implement technology in a way that empowers residents and families and gives your organization a competitive edge.
