by Published On: Nov 09, 2011

LeadingAge is 1 of 13 not-for-profits in the aging field recently idenitfied as "high-impact" by Philanthropedia, a program of Guidestar.

This designation comes after 88 experts in the field evaluated not-for-profits working in 1 of the following 4 fields:

  • Health care, caregiving, and long-term support
  • Housing
  • Economic security
  • Other services, including  transportation, civic engagement, socialization and prevention of elder abuse.

Several types of not-for-profits were considered, including  direct-service providers, coalitions, advocacy organizations, associations, or research organizations.

According to LeadingAge's profile, the evaluating experts believe LeadingAge "effectively assists older adults seeking access to long-term care, affordable housing, and health care benefits." Experts also commented on LeadingAge's advocacy effort on long-term care financing reform. According to a foundation professional, "They (LeadingAge) have emerged as the real leader in long-term care reform."

This recognition for LeadingAge is just part of Philanthropedia's work to evaluate 365 not-for-profit organizations across 24 causes.
