Rural Summit 2017: Continuing the Conversation

Workforce | August 01, 2017 | by Barbara Gay

On July 26, 2017, fifty LeadingAge members from all corners of the state gathered at the offices of LeadingAge Minnesota to discuss the special impact of workforce, regulatory and payment issues on rural long-term services and supports providers.

Staff from LeadingAge's national office participated in the discussion, which generated a number of recommendations for recruiting and retaining certified nursing assistants; developing tools to help nursing homes comply with the new requirements of participation and other regulations, accountable care organizations and other new payment systems, telemedicine possibilities and other issues.

Last year's rural summit informed LeadingAge's advocacy on Medicaid and regulatory issues and also led to the establishment of our Center on Workforce Solutions. We are anxious to continue working to address the particular issues involved in providing long-term services and supports in rural settings.

In pursuit of that goal, we will hold a rural network meeting during LeadingAge's national conference in New Orleans. We hope as many of our rural members as possible will participate in this meeting, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
