Summer Institute on CREATE/CHANGE: Transforming Care for Elders through Creative Engagement

June 24, 2012 - June 28, 2012

The Penelope Project, a multi-year long collaboration between Luther Manor and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's Center on Age and Community and Theatre Department, and Sojourn Theatre culminated in a professional produced play last Spring. The project used the story of Penelope from Homer’s Odyssey to engage the entire Luther Manor retirement community in the making of a play. Residents from throughout the continuum, staff, family members, university students and Sojourn ensemble members participated in discussion groups, movement exercises, visual art making, story telling and music making.

CREATE/CHANGE: Transforming the Lives of Elders through Creative Engagement will bring together the Penelope team to share all that they learned about creating rigorous art, partnerships, accessible programming, and individual and organizational change in long-term care.

Learn from the artists, professional care providers, researchers and residents. Designed for artists, students, and care professionals, you'll learn about partnership and creative engagement, and design your own project!

Held June 24-28, 2012 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
