The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers Final Rule to establish consistent emergency preparedness requirements for healthcare providers participating in Medicare and Medicaid, increase patient safety during emergencies, and establish a more coordinated response to natural and human-caused disasters. It is critical for Home Health, Hospice,  Skilled nursing Facilities and PACE organizations to develop effective and robust emergency plans and responses. The final Emergency Preparedness Rule released by CMS published in the  9/16/16 Federal Register and effective 11/15/16 states nursing homes, home health, hospice, and PACE have until 11/15/17 to implement the new Emergency preparedness requirements.
