The Canadian Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CC-ABHI), located at Baycrest Health Sciences (Baycrest) in Toronto, Canada, is offering funding to accelerate innovative solutions that will allow older adults to age safely in the setting of their choice while maintaining their cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being. Katie Sloan, LeadingAge’s president and CEO, serves on the Board of CC-ABHI.
CC-ABHI invites project proposals for the validation testing of products, processes, services, and/or technologies in four key care-need areas targeted to older adults:
- Reducing or avoiding unnecessary emergency department visits for older adults living with dementia.
- Falls prevention in older adults with dementia.
- Better managing complex chronic conditions in older adults with dementia who are living at home.
- Improving brain health or cognitive fitness in older adults.
Matched Support Requirements
Each selected applicant will be able to lever a maximum of $600,000 (CAD) from CC-ABHI to support up to 50% of the eligible project costs specifically associated with validating their innovation. The project will be undertaken at the identified trial-partner site(s) located in Canada and/or the network partner(s) of CC-ABHI in the United States. At least one of the project participants, either the applicant company or the trial partner site must be located in Canada.
The remaining 50% of each project’s cost must be provided by the selected company, through a blend of cash and in-kind contributions. For example, if the total eligible project costs to execute the trial at a selected seniors’ care organization is $500,000 (CAD), then $250,000 (CAD) must be funded by the selected company, and the remaining $250,000 (CAD) of funding will be provided by CC-ABHI directly to the trial site(s).
The selected company must invest their portion of the project cost at the start of the project. In addition, the selected company must also provide CC-ABHI with a service fee of 10% of the total project cost. In the above example, if the total project cost is $500,000 (CAD), the selected company must pay CC-ABHI a service fee of $50,000.
