Majd Alwan to present a CAST case study on reducing readmissions by collecting vital signs electronically

CAST’s Online Technology Selection Tools and a recent case study will be highlighted at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Annual Meeting, to be held Nov. 30 - Dec. 1, 2017, in Washington, DC.

Majd Alwan, CAST executive director and senior vice president of technology at LeadingAge, will present the tools at the conference’s “Deep Dive: Resources and Case Studies to Support Long Term and Post-Acute Care Health IT Adoption and Health Information Exchange” on Friday Dec. 1.

Alwan will discuss a recent case study that explains how Camelot Brookside Care Center of Central Control, Inc. reduced hospital readmissions by collecting vital signs electronically. Camelot Brookside used Constant Care Technology’s CareConnection system—a turnkey solution that included automated vitals equipment and scales and software integration to the EHR—to ensure that vitals measurements would be documented automatically and in real time without any error. This approach cut the readmission rate by more than half, from 26.3% to 10.4%, in a short timeframe with minimal investment.

Also, for the second year in a row, CAST’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) Selection Tool will be featured in the LTPAC Care Setting section of ONC’s updated Health IT Playbook, which will be released later this year.
