CAST Conference Events Focus on EHRs, Planning, Quality and Person-Centered Care

| September 11, 2012

CAST has a host of exciting activities planned for the LeadingAge Annual Meeting, which takes place in Denver, CO.

Electronic Health Records (EHR). Strategic planning. Quality improvement. Person-centered care. These and other topics will be the focus of CAST-sponsored activities at the LeadingAge Annual Meeting and Exposition, which takes place on Oct. 21-24, 2012 in Denver, CO.

CAST will be sponsoring 5 conference sessions throughout the meeting, as well as an Idea Exchange at the CAST booth in the exhibition hall.

You can register for the meeting by visiting the LeadingAge website.

Idea Exchange

CAST held its first Idea Exchange in the exhibition hall at the PEAK Leadership Summit in April. During the exchange, representatives of 10 organizations, which were featured in CAST’s Preparing for the Future case study collection, were available for one-on-one conversations about their technology-enabled services and supports.

Because the Idea Exchange was such a success, CAST is repeating and expanding the event to include organizations featured in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) case study collection, which CAST released last spring. Organizations featured in both case study collections will be available for one-on-one discussions with conference attendees.

This is a great opportunity for conference participants to receive information about the innovative, technology-enabled care models that some CAST members are implementing and to learn from others who have selected and implemented EHRs in their communities. It’s also a great time to network and make plans to collaborate and partner with colleagues to carry out innovative practices and business models.

Three CAST business model case study participants and 3 CAST EHR case study participants will be featured daily during the following hours:

  • Oct. 22, 12:30-3:00 p.m.
  • Oct. 23, 12:30-3:00 p.m.
  • Oct. 24, 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Conference Sessions

CAST will offer 5 sessions during this year’s Annual Meeting. Register today to learn more about EHR implementation and how technology can help you plan strategically, improve quality and provide person-centered care. Specific sessions include:

  • Anatomy of a Software Conversion and EHR Implementation (114-A), Sunday, Oct. 21, 3:30-5:00 p.m. This session will explore the process used by a multisite provider to convert to a fully integrated software system across 6 communities. Participants will receive tips on working with vendors and using EHRs to capture quality metrics across all levels of care.
  • Making Technology a Strategic Asset (118-B), Monday, Oct. 22, 8:00-9:30 a.m. This session will explore how one organization used a “road map” to organize technology strategies and align them with its operating and capital spending requirements and governance structure.
  • Health Information Technology (HIT) and Quality Improvement (11-D), Tuesday, Oct. 23, 8:00-9:30 a.m. This session will recognize ways HIT enables clinical decision making and care coordination. Participants will learn strategies for leveraging HIT to identify high-risk residents and improve clinical outcomes for falls and hospital transfers.
  • Integrating Technology to Enhance Person-Centered Care (22-G), Wednesday, Oct. 24, 12:30-2:00 p.m. Participants in this session will discover how to use a variety of technology applications to support resident independence and quality of life throughout the continuum of care. The session will consider the adaptability of these technologies to enable personalized care that evolves as residents’ needs change.
  • Electronic Health Records in Long-Term and Post-Acute Care (136-H), Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2:30-4:00 p.m. This session will consider the steps providers should take when planning and implementing EHRs. Participants will hear case studies and obtain a tool designed to help them select the most appropriate EHR product based on their care setting and organizational functional needs.
