Another Annual Meeting has come and gone! 2015 was our largest conference yet, with over 8,500 attendees! Our theme was "Be the Voice." Here are some of the highlights from Boston.
Attendees of this year's meeting used Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to engage in
conversations, ask questions, and share their photos. You can check out their
posts/experiences via the #LeadingAge15 hashtag.
A dedicated group of LeadingAge members reviewed close to
500 proposals to carefully select the sessions
featured in the program this year. The Deep Dive Workshops
focused on leadership, governance, and philanthropy topics—and our member site
visits provided an opportunity to learn about the unique programming being
offered at five Boston
In addition, a wealth of information was shared by our over
representing more than 300 organizations around the world! Their presentation
materials are available online so you can now share the education content
from the meeting with colleagues back home.
The day-long interactive program, Fostering
a Culture of Innovation, was designed to help LeadingAge members create and
sustain a culture of innovation, one that is adept at taking risks, embracing
change and experimenting with new ideas.
The 2015 Leadership Academy Fellows marked the end of the
program year by presenting their Action Learning Projects at this inspiring
event in Boston. As they concluded their program year, a new group of Fellows
began their own leadership journey during the Annual Meeting.
We had four exceptional speakers at this year's meeting:
- Sunday - Drs. Joseph Coughlin and Mark McClellan talked about the role of technology in aging services.
- Monday - Dr. Atul Gawande spoke to the audience about the importance of planning to live, not planning to die.
- Tuesday - Daniel Pink motivated the crowd with his discussion all about...motivation.
interactive “When I Grow Up” exhibit was installed on the Rose Kennedy
Greenway for the week. Passersby could write on the wall what they wanted
to be when they grew up, and engage in a giant game of chess or checkers.
additional pods with different aging experience angles were located inside
the expo hall. Read
more about these unique exhibits.
Our expo hall was bigger and better than ever with more than
500 exhibitors in one giant exhibit hall. This year's expo included:
Sharks: Based on the popular TV show, Shark Tank, members presented their
innovative ideas to a panel of judges who would decide who had the
best idea of the day. Sponsored by LeadingAge Silver Partner GlynnDevins.
Pavilion: We incorporated HackFest into the expo hall to give all of our
members a chance to experience the event. At the pavilion, attendees had
the opportunity to vote for a People's Choice award winner through our
Shot Studio: This very popular booth was sponsored by LeadingAge Gold Partner PS Lifestyle.
Attendees had a chance to get professional headshot photos taken at a
special booth, complete with exclusive hair and makeup services. At times
there were long lines of members waiting to "say cheese!" Sponsored by LeadingAge Gold Partner PS Lifestyle
Bar: Members stopped for a cold beer and chat with some friendly faces at
our replica of the famous Boston Pub. Sponsored by LeadingAge Gold Partner CliftonLarsonAllen.
Campground: This dynamic new area provided an opportunity for members to
learn more about the latest in creating communities and programs that help
LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society. The
campground featured TED-like stages, conversations by campfire, and
technology-infused poster sessions.
Larry’s Farewell Celebration
Members, exhibitors, and friends had the opportunity to send
Larry off in style at the final general session with a poem, standing ovation,
song, and a newly named “Larry Minnix Leadership Academy.” Many tears were shed
as we wished him the best and welcomed our new leader, Katie Smith Sloan. Look
at our Facebook page for pictures and videos of the tribute.
Thanks to all who came out and made this a great meeting!
