Winter Slip and Fall Prevention Helps Residents Stay Safe

by Published On: Nov 03, 2011

In its Winter Slip and Fall Prevention: Helping Residents Stay Safe and Upright Despite Ice and Snow bulletin, CNA said that any slip or fall incident on the premises – whether by a resident, visitor or employee – can have serious liability consequences for aging-services organizations.

According to CNA claims data, resident falls are by far the most frequent cause of litigation in aging services settings.

Slip-and-fall risks escalate for seniors in winter, as sidewalks become coated with ice, melted snow turns floors slippery, and joints are stiffer and more painful.

Winter slip and fall accidents are a serious but largely preventable exposure for all cold-weather aging services settings.
