Sept. 29 Expo: Help Young People Understand Aging

by Published On: Sep 20, 2012

Calling all LeadingAge members and affiliates! Booz Allen Hamilton invites you to share your expertise on aging with young people at a Science Expo on Sept. 29, 2012 in Alexandria, VA.

During the Science Expo, exhibitors with knowledge spanning all areas of senior living will interact with young people, share educational resources and discuss new ideas to improve the lives of seniors.

The 9-to-16-year-olds want to understand the topic of aging so they can participate in the FIRST® LEGO® League challenge. During the challenge, teams will develop innovative solutions to a problem faced by seniors.

The Expo takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in Alexandria, VA. An optional lunch event takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Robotic Solutions for Aging

The 2012 FIRST® LEGO® League challenge is a robotics program designed to get pre-teens and teens excited about science and technology. This year’s challenge focuses on “Senior Solutions.” Teams with up to 10 children and at least one adult coach will:

  • Find a senior partner.
  • Identify and learn about a problem faced by seniors.
  • Create an innovative solution to the problem they identify.
  • Share the problem and their solution with others.

The Science Expo

Booz Allen Hamilton is hosting the Science Expo in cooperation with For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST®), AARP and the USPTO. There’s no charge to participate as an exhibitor. More than 500 people have registered for the event. Attendees will include young people, their parents, mentors and families.
