Meal Programs Funding Maintained in President’s 2013 Budget Proposal
President Obama's proposed budget for FY 2013 in general requests a continuation of the funding for Meal Programs through the Older Americans Act.
What's in the budget?
- Title IIIC Congregate Nutrition Services: No changes. Funding remains at $440 million.
- Title IIIC Home-Delivered Meals: Remains at $217 million. There was more funding for this program in 2011.
We strongly believe that home delivered meal funding needs to be increased, as the demand increases. We are pleased that in these difficult economic times, there were no major cuts in meal programs. Elders depend on these meals every day.
As Congress considers 2013 budget and spending bills over the coming months, we will work with them and the Obama administration to ensure appropriate resources for a healthy, ethical and affordable system of aging services.
