National Church Residences announced a pilot of an innovative Aging at Home Medical Practice, designed to provide on-site primary care to its housing and adult day services that could spread to 330 communities in 28 states managed by the nation’s largest nonprofit developer of affordable senior housing.
CEO Tom Slemmer hopes success in the pilot would also change thinking in Washington, DC, about whether affordable housing – a budget item headed for cuts next year – could be instead thought of as the base of operations for containing Medicare and Medicaid spending. “Because we focus on consistently improving services and standards of care, National Church Residences is a recognized leader in providing innovative programming that transforms lives,” said Slemmer. “We believe that our efforts can help our nation as we face the dual challenges of a growing senior population and increasing costs of health care in a time of tight government budgets.”
