LeadingAge President and CEO Larry Minnix today wrote to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urging them not to support any legislation that would repeal the CLASS Act. In his letters, Minnix reminded the leaders that the Community Living Assistance Services and Support (CLASS) Act program will ultimately save our country money. Not only does the Congressional Budget Office expect it to reduce the federal budget deficit by $86 billion over 10 years, but more importantly, it will ease the pressure on Medicaid by helping people plan and pay for their long-term care needs.
These letters are part of a major grassroots effort that LeadingAge and partner groups are launching to make sure that the Gang of Six Proposal, which includes repeal of CLASS, is not used for the country's debt-reduction plan. The Gang of Six, which includes three Democratic and three Republican senators, issued their plan on July 19.
LeadingAge members can do their part to join the effort by using our Contact Congress system and sending an email to their legislators today.
