LeadingAge member organizations Eastcastle Place, Jewish Home and Care Center, Milwaukee Catholic Home, and Saint John’s on the Lake, have come together with Milwaukee-area cultural organizations and the Center on Age and Community (CAC) to form The Creative Trust of the River East Alliance.
According to a recent CAC newsletter article, “The Trust aims to bring life-long learning in the arts to people of all ages on Milwaukee's Eastside.”
Together, the organizations hope to coordinate communication about arts programming, make adjustments for accessibility, create opportunities for intergenerational engagement and connect students with the aging services field via participatory arts.
This fall the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s production of The Tragedy of King Lear will serve as a springboard for engagement. Each of the four aging services organizations will host King Lear discussion groups.
Student actors will visit the discussion groups and older adults will attend production rehearsals. And in November during the play’s run, participants will facilitate an intergenerational post-show discussion.
The Trust hopes to expand throughout Milwaukee in the years ahead. The model will undoubtedly provide a roadmap for collaboration among similar organizations across the country.
