Case Studies in Gerontological Nursing

Earlier this month, I received a copy of Case Studies in Gerontological Nursing for the Advance Practice Nurse, a new publication featuring contributions from Eileen O’Connor Smith and Kelly Papa of the Alzheimer’s Resource Center of Connecticut

The duo co-authored 2 chapters:

  • “A Place Called Home.”
  • “Understanding Distress.”

The book presents readers with a range of both typical and atypical cases from real clinical scenarios, and is organized into 6 units covering a variety of aging issues including:

  • Ageism.
  • Common health challenges.
  • Health promotion.
  • Environments of care.
  • Cognitive and psychological issues.
  • Issues relating to aging and independence.

Each case follows a similar format including the patient's presentation, critical thinking questions, and a thorough discussion of the case resolution through which students and clinicians can enhance their clinical reasoning skills.

Eileen and Kelly’s work is a testament to the great contributions made by LeadingAge members. The book can be purchased via Wiley-Blackwell
