How LeadingAge New York Members Quantify Their Impact

Congratulations to LeadingAge New York on the successful release on January 10, 2012, of IMPACT: Services for the Elderly and Disabled – An Economic Powerhouse, an economicimpact analysis created by LeadingAge New York. The economic impact report tellsthe story of not-for-profit aging services organizations at both the state-wide andregional levels.  

The report features 18 provider spotlights includingtheir impacts within each of the state’s 10 designated economic regions andhighlights the innovations being undertaken by these not-for-profit providers,which is transforming the way seniors and the disabled receive care in NewYork.

Highlights of the data are: 

  • Long term care providers across the stategenerate more than $29 billion in economic activity.
  • Nursing homes alonesupport 176,000 jobs annually.
  • In some regions of the state, long termcare providers count among the top 10 employers intheir region.

The report also highlights members from each of the state's different economic regions to demonstrate their innovative approaches and impact in their communities. 

For example, it mentions how Broadlawn Manor on Long Island offers mental health screening for seniors and how Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown has opened "Smartment Building" with technology to facilitate aging in place.

The report's release has generated much buzz across the state. 

The Syracuse Post-Standard and the Oswego County Business Magazine both published articles and the report has been circulated widely throughout the state.
