by Published On: Jan 11, 2012

Congratulations to LeadingAge New York on the successful release on January 10, 2012, of IMPACT: Services for the Elderly and Disabled – An Economic Powerhouse, an economic impact analysis created by LeadingAge New York. The economic impact report tells the story of not-for-profit aging services organizations at both the state-wide and regional levels.

The report features 18 provider spotlights including their impacts within each of the state’s 10 designated economic regions and highlights the innovations being undertaken by these not-for-profit providers, which is transforming the way seniors and the disabled receive care in New York.

Highlights of the data are:

  • Long term care providers across the state generate more than $29 billion in economic activity.
  • Nursing homes alone support 176,000 jobs annually.
  • In some regions of the state, long term care providers count among the top 10 employers in their region.

The report also highlights members from each of the state's different economic regions to demonstrate their innovative approaches and impact in their communities.

For example, it mentions how Broadlawn Manor on Long Island offers mental health screening for seniors and how Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown has opened "Smartment Building" with technology to facilitate aging in place.

The report's release has generated much buzz across the state.

The Syracuse Post-Standard and the Oswego County Business Magazine both published articles and the report has been circulated widely throughout the state.
