John Knox Village's Health Center has been awarded the Governor's Gold Seal Award. JKV is one of 19 skilled nursing care facilities (SNF) to receive the prestigious award, out of more than 740 total SNF's across the state.

Created in 2002, the Gold Seal Award program recognizes Florida skilled nursing care facilities that have exceptionally high standards and display excellence in the quality of care delivered to their residents.Recipients of the award must meet the following criteria:

  • Be in operation at minimum of 30 months prior to the application.
  • Meet a quality care scoring and ranking that places JKV in the top 10 percent in the region and 15 percent in the state.
  • Have no Class I or II deficiencies within a certain timeframe.
  • Participate in a consumer satisfaction process involving residents, family members and guardians.
  • Have a stable workforce.
  • Have an outstanding record with the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Council.
  • Provide target in-service training to meet training needs identified.

The multi-step approval process began in March and ended in late May with a presentation to the Governor’s Panel on Excellence in Long-Term Care, followed by endorsement from Florida Governor Rick Scott.

“We are so proud of our Health Center and our entire team of dedicated caregivers who have worked so hard to achieve this high standard of excellence,” Robert Scharmann, JKV president and CEO, said in a press release.

“Obtaining the Gold Seal Award is truly a privilege and honor. It is a collaborative effort that involves hard work and providing quality care every single day,” Mark Rayner, director of Health Facilities, said. “Now that we have obtained the award, we have to continue to live up to those standards.”
