I was honored on June 13, 2012, to testify at a Senate Special Committee on Aging Forum Advancing Practices for Raising the Bar for Senior Care Leaders. This session focused on strategies for attracting and retaining talented administrators and other leaders in aging services.
LeadingAge is very concerned about this issue and created our Leadership Academy 7 years ago to build the leadership capacity of aging services professionals so they are better equipped to serve our field.
It was a tremendous honor to tell the Aging Committee staff about the wonderful experiences our 200 Leadership Academy fellows have had and how the Academy has helped them be more effective leaders and has been a catalyst for state leadership development programs across the country.
Following the panel, I urged the staff to visit some of our fellows' organizations to see the vision in action.
Part of the Leadership Academy experience is going on congressional visits during our PEAK Leadership Summit. I was proud to reinforce their advocacy efforts by telling their story to legislators.
