Love was in the air when more than 70 seniors from the Charles E. Smith Life Communities in Rockville, MD attended the Sweetheart Social, a Valentine’s Day-themed dance, at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD. The night included live music, refreshments and dancing to the tunes of jazz band Night and Day. The seniors received corsages as they entered, enjoyed desserts, and took home beautiful door prizes. The venue even highlighted the community’s name in lights scrolling across their marquis.
“They are still talking about how wonderful it was last night. They love feeling part of the community and having those wonderful young people helping made it even more special for our residents,” noted Susan Brall, one of the two dozen staff who transported and assisted residents at the event. More than 1,000 seniors make the Charles E. Smith Life Communities campus their home and about 1,000 more spend time there each year, recovering and then returning to their own homes.Extensive media coverage of the Sweetheart Social included:
