Action Coalitions Offer Opportunity to Advance Future of Nursing

by Published On: Jun 24, 2011

The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AARP, is developing Action Coalitions to help enhance the nursing profession in communities nationwide. These coalitions will include diverse state-level provider, consumer, regulatory and government stakeholders who are committed to acheiving this goal. Their activities will include capturing and sharing best practices, determining research needs, tracking lessons learned and identifying replicable models.

Groups considering this opportunity are encouraged to be their states' coalition. Each coalition must be a led by a nursing and non-nursing-related organization. Each coalition candidate will submit an application that will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Strength of stated goals and objectives (including short-term and long-term goals).
  • Strength and length of nurse/non-nurse stakeholder partnerships.
  • Strength of existing skills, experience, assets and current efforts, including leadership ability, issue knowledge, relationships with key decision makers and fundraising capacity  that can coalition members can offer. Existing infrastructure in the state or region on which to build. The infrastructure does not have to be complete, but should demonstrate solid developmental milestones.

All applications are due August 10, 2011. Applicants will have the chance to speak with staff about Action Coalitions during a webinar, which will be held on July 14.
