About the Leadership Academy

The Leadership Academy is a year-long program designed to develop aging services leaders nationwide. The program provides a challenging and engaging learning environment that enhances the leadership capacity of aging-services professionals so they are better equipped to serve the aging-services field.

Leadership Theory

Each face-to-face meeting builds on specific leadership theories and practices, generating a foundation of leadership knowledge that Fellows can draw from to enhance their own leadership styles. Assigned readings reinforce those theories and onsite exercises apply them to practical settings.

Innovative Models

Member site visits expose Fellows to innovative organizations across the continuum and the visionary leaders who enable transformation. Fellows learn about the organization itself and the contributions of the leaders (at all levels) responsible for creating unique care environments and programming.

Mentorship Opportunities

Fellows engage in intimate dialogue with visionary, not-for-profit aging services leaders to gain fresh perspective about the field and a deeper understanding of the range of leadership philosophies. These leaders range from seasoned CEOs and executive staff to board members, nurses, CNAs and residents.

Project-Based Learning

An important component of the program is the Action Learning Project in which Fellows champion innovations in their organizations. The projects gives Fellows a chance to reflect individually and in groups, gaining insight through the wisdom of their peers and strengthen their skills at influencing change.

A Focus on Diversity

The Fellows hold a variety of roles within their diverse organizations. Each class represents diversity of gender, race, geography, the aging services continuum and career experience which allows the class to gain new and fresh perspectives about each other and the field of aging services.

A Network of Peers

Fellows build meaningful, lasting relationships that provide guidance and support over a lifetime of leadership. Upon completing the program, Fellows join a robust Alumni Network dedicated to continuing the Academy experience through shared learning, fellowship and service opportunities.
